The Encouragement Award aims to promote HEC Montréal students’ interest in the cooperative and mutualist field by encouraging high quality, inspiring and rigorous research.
Eligibility requirements
- Be enrolled in one of the master programs at HEC Montréal;
- Be in the process of preparing a supervised project or thesis, or integration project relating to cooperatives or mutuals.
Submitting your application
Applicants must email the following documents to institutcoop@hec.ca in .pdf format:
- A 500-word abstract including a contextualization of their topic, a concise formulation of their research question(s), hypothesis and a proposal of the method(s) proposed to explore the topic.
- An up-to-date CV.
The application can be presented in French or English.
Evaluation
The documents submitted will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Relevance of the topic for cooperatives or mutuals;
- Use of data specific to cooperatives or mutuals;
- Quality of the research question or hypothesis and proposed approach.
The jury’s decision will be communicated to the candidates by email. The winner of the Encouragement Award will receive $500.

The deadline to submit candidacy for the Encouragement Award is April 5, 2024.
