The Alphonse and Dorimène Desjardins International Institute for Cooperatives is pleased to support Carolina Hidalgo-Lopez’ supervised project, “Characterization of Brazilian financial cooperatives in a process of change (incorporation, absorption and bankruptcy) – Application of a discrete time survival model”. This project is the result of extensive research on mergers (incorporations), removals and bankruptcies in the field of financial cooperatives in Brazil. It also sought to develop the use of machine learning techniques in this area. Divided into four parts, the project benefited from the collaboration of the Central Bank of Brazil for data access.
The Institute wishes to thank in particular Mrs. Inmaculada Buendia-Martinez, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Castilla-La Mancha and specialist in cooperatives in Latin America, and Mr. Rogério Mandelli Bisi, Head of the Subunit of the Organization Department of the Financial System of the Central Bank of Brazil, for their collaboration.
