This year’s Award of Excellence for Research on Cooperatives and Mutuals will be presented to Eléonore Compère for her integration project carried out as part of the Master’s degree in Management and Sustainable Development. The members of the jury were Prof. Justine Ballon and Prof. Inmaculada Buendia Martinez.
Summary of the integration project: « Entre économie verte et réformisme : Une exploration des convergences des politiques publiques en économie circulaire et en économie sociale au Québec ».
The integration project was a research mandate to write a chapter for the Handbook on Social Innovation and Social Policy, edited by Stephen Sinclair and Simone Baglioni.
The chapter focused, first, on the identification of public policies on the circular economy, the administrators of these policies, and the evolution of these policies over time at the municipal (Montreal), provincial (Quebec), and federal (Canada) levels. In a second phase, the same work was done for social economy policies but with a particular focus on creating a repertoire of social economy policies that “intersect” with circular economy policies. This policy identification and analysis highlighted the roles of social economy organizations, including cooperatives, in the adoption of circular economy strategies. In addition, it identified the potential and possible tensions for a convergence between the social economy and the circular economy. Public policies were identified in a broad sense, these refer to certain laws, regulations, funding, and different programs. The chapter was co-authored with professors Rafael Ziegler, Martine Vézina, and Emmanuel Raufflet.

Eléonore Compère holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium and a Masters in Management and Sustainable Development from HEC Montreal. After completing her Master’s degree, Eléonore joined the Institute’s team as a research associate, where she was also an intern during her last semester of university.
