The Institute is happy to announce that the article titled: “Educating Young People in “Collective Entrepreneurship”: Challenges and Tensions at the Heart of Collective Entrepreneurship Initiation Cooperatives in Québec”, co-written by Melissa Ziani, recipient of the 2020 Award of Excellence for Research on Cooperatives and Mutuals has recently been published in the Canadian Journal of nonprofit and social economy research. The article focuses on collective entrepreneurship initiation cooperatives (CIEC) in Quebec, which want to act as an education project for youth in collective entrepreneurship. It was co-written with Pénélope Codello, Associate Professor, Department of Management and Director of the Certificates Program, and Anne Mesny, Professor, Department of Management and Director of Arpège, Research Hub on Management Education.

Abstract:

“Based on a qualitative methodology combining non-participant observation and semi-directed interviews with the coordinators of the CIECs, we explore the conceptions of collective entrepreneurship that emerge from the project and the experiential learning that the coordinators seek to elicit in young people. We highlight several tensions and challenges of the CIEC project which, by seeking to reconcile professional integration, entrepreneurship, initiation to collective enterprises and awareness of the social and solidarity economy, ultimately risk diluting its educational impacts.”
