CoopGateway, the digital library on cooperatives and mutuals founded by the Alphonse and Dorimène Desjardins International Institute for Cooperatives, was recently the subject of an article on the website of the Maison de la coopération du Montréal métropolitain. A non-profit solidarity cooperative, MC2M’s mission is to house cooperatives and organizations for social purposes, while promoting the creation and development of cooperatives, inter-cooperation and cooperative influence.
As described in the article, the overall goal of CoopGateway is to democratize knowledge about cooperatives and mutuals, by consolidating information on one platform and making it accessible to all. Data on cooperatives and mutuals is weak and difficult to access, due to their roots in the local economic and social fabric.
The creation of a single point of access bringing together the various documents on cooperatives worldwide is an innovative formula that allows the development and deepening of cutting-edge research in this area.
In addition to the Desjardins collection and the International Summit of Cooperatives collection, the CoopGateway team is currently preparing a new collection of documents from La Coop fédérée.
