The Alphonse and Dorimène Desjardins International Institute for Cooperatives participated in the 87th ACFAS Conference, which was held this year from May 27 to 31 in Gatineau. The theme of the conference was “Engaging the Knowledge – Societies Dialogue”, providing an opportunity to highlight the contribution of international francophone communities to the challenges of research.

The Institute presented its third study on the theme of innovation and cooperatives, “The cooperative enterprise by and for millennials”, a study by Eric Brat, Inmaculada Buendia Martinez, Quentin Jeandeau and Nabila Ouchene. The study is based on a mixed methodology, including an online survey of HEC Montréal students, group interviews, and a mapping of  best coop practices. The main objective of the study was to confirm the values and perceptions of millennials, as well as their knowledge of cooperative enterprises in the era of sharing and of the digital economy.

The strategic issue is: how to promote the cooperative enterprise as an “employment” and “entrepreneurship” brand among young people, given the attractive image of cooperatives among them, and despite their supposed lack of knowledge of this business model ?
